Pićan suits the traveller who is not looking for constant activity. Approach it with a small amount of curiosity and a generous amount of time. A walk through the old centre can be the main event; the surrounding country gives you a choice of what, if anything, should follow.

A town with an older story

Pićan was historically the seat of a diocese. Read a little about that history before walking the centre and the surviving religious heritage becomes more than a picturesque backdrop. Check visitor access rather than assuming that a church is open throughout the day.

The landscape is a separate visit

Sopot waterfall lies near Floričići in the Pićan area. It is not in the town square, and reaching its viewpoints or lower areas is a separate outing. Water flow varies, and wet or uneven terrain can change the experience substantially.

Build a gentle pairing

Combine Pićan with Gračišće for two different views of the interior, or make time for one local producer by appointment. A modest route allows you to enjoy the landscape without rushing from parking place to parking place.
