A good food weekend is less about collecting restaurant names than understanding what matters to you. A family-run setting, a seasonal dish, an introduction to a producer: choose one as the centre of the day. In Istria, ask questions before ordering and let the conversation be part of the meal.

Start with a sense of place

Tinjan is closely associated with Istrian pršut, making it a natural starting point for a producer-focused visit. Arrange a tasting directly and ask what is included, how long it lasts and whether your group needs a reservation. Do not assume a production address is a walk-in shop.

Order thoughtfully

Look for local pasta such as fuži or pljukanci, then ask about the day's preparation and the origin of featured ingredients. A truffle dish is not the same as a fresh-truffle experience: ask what is being served, in which form, and at what price.

One tasting is enough

Malvazija and Teran can introduce different sides of Istrian wine. Choose an appointment that leaves time to listen, rather than moving between several cellars. Arrange a driver or transfer when tasting; a beautiful rural itinerary should never depend on drinking and driving.
